Al-Sulaiteen Agricultural Research, Studies and Training Centre

Introduction

The Center was established by SAIC to serve as the research wing of the complex. This was necessitated by the pivotal role that research plays in food production especially in the regions where there are desertification, overexploitation of marginal lands and fragile ecosystems, deforestation, erosion of biodiversity and soil degradation which endanger the continued existence of food production itself. It aims to foster research in new crop varieties, new technologies, protected agriculture, hydroponics, molecular biology and tissue culture in order to increase the efficiency of crop production systems. It achieves this through an active role in capacity building, training, research, knowledge management, technology transfer and information exchange in partnership with regional and international agricultural systems, private sectors and governments.

Collaborating Institutions

SARSTC has strategically established strong links with regional and international institutions that share a similar research agenda. Some of the most important of such institutions are as follows

Applied Research

SARSTC embarks upon many agricultural researches in the fields of modern agricultural techniques. These include biotechnology, molecular biology, tissue culture, soilless culture (hydroponics), roof gardening, integrated production and protection management (IPPM), protected agriculture (PA) etc.Read more ...

Studies

The center embarks on many studies in the areas of food security, modern techniques for vegetable production as well as visibility studies and specialized development studies. The center hosts a number of scientists and researchers who help execute these studies. An example of such studies is the ongoing study to determine the light type Read more ...

Training
